Zion NP Archives

This past week I had the privilege of our archivist at ZNP. My current projects involve gaining more knowledge about the CCC and their work at Zion National Park and in the state of Utah. This will have taken place in the early 1930s all through 1941. After the CCC was dismantled, several generals and CCC workers joined the military and off to war during World War II during my time exploring the archives, I was able to look through superintendent ‘ reports, photo, albums, newspapers, diaries, blueprints, and outlines of. Park restoration and contracting. It was an amazing site to see several Latino workers here at Zion contributing to creating restoring one of the most beautiful parks. Throughout the photo album there are several Latinos from the state of California. There is mention of some Salvadorian and Hispanic workers. One of their bosses surname was Wood, so evidently, they gave him the nickname “Lena”. It was eye-opening to see the representation of Latino workers in Utah. Their influence and hard work helped create and maintain one of the most beautiful parks in the state of Utah. During the 1930s, President Roosevelt created the civilian conservation Corps to reduce financials burden and create conservation projects. Young men from around eh U. S. joined the ccc. Some for a. better life, and others because it passed the time. The men were paid $30 every month and kept only $5. The other $25 were sent home to their families to help.
