23 Jun Week: número seis

This week was so average, medium, okay. The line before this one is a lie. Being from Las Vegas, I am used to being in an air conditioned space at all times. It is comforting. But last week taught me that the heat and humidity is something to embrace. The sweating is unreal, but what makes this worth it is the experience. On Monday and Tuesday, I had the pleasure of working with The Green Team. It is a group middle and high school students that help do various community projects. I was asked if I would like to help out, and I could not resist. I was able to help with clearing fencing near our headquarters, and going to our visitor center to help clear open the view towards the river. At the end of it, I was able to talk to the students about myself and how I got to where I am now. It was amazing to see interest in what I was doing and why I was doing it. On Wednesday, I had the opportunity to go through cannon firing training. You read that correctly. Cannon. Firing. Check it out down below. Cannon firing We dressed up as Navy personnel. We were also able to go through real commands that would have been used. That same day I was also able to talk to someone from the Florida Solar Research Center. It was pretty cool to see what was being studied and to see current technology. My contact also let me borrow a small photovoltaic system that is attached to a motor fan. So now I have something to show people instead of only using words. I was hoping I would be able to use this in order to show children how it works. It is something currently being worked on.

Thursday, I helped someone in the office draw up some schematics for storm windows. It made me feel like part of the team even more. Then I remembered that I would be leaving in a few weeks. It is going by so fast. Twelve weeks is not enough. This week ended with attending a meeting at the University of North Florida. I made a few contacts and am hopeful for the outcome. There is definitely more to come.
