25 Jun The Workload is Stacking Up
Hello Everyone
So the last time I posted a lot was going on, and since then the workload has only gotten bigger. The first week was full of introductions and just getting to know the park and staff. Now that the honeymoon is over, the work has been stacking up.
Really good news for the program. My supervisor, Carlo, has been really cool and lenient and is giving me the green light to do my own Ranger Program for Latino Conservation Week. I have something really special in the works now about a hidden figure of my park, and if it works out then this might be the most amazing thing I’ve ever done so I am very excited and will keep you updated on it.
A few other things going on include the bird publication that I have to do for the internship. That is now underway. We agreed about what will be on it and how to do it, and I’m very happy that it will be in both English and Spanish. This is going to be very resourceful for people who may not know too much about birding, and also for people who don’t know too much English, or just prefer Spanish. The only problem I have with it so far is that I don’t really know too much about birds. I’m really solid on my geology, history, mammals, and other ecology, but birds are not really my thing. So it will be interesting to see how a big bird publication for birders will look when it’s written by someone who doesn’t bird, if that’s the right word for the verb. However, I’ve made really good friends so far here and many of them are willing to help, not just from the interpretation staff but from other divisions as well. I got to work with the Snowy Plover Biologist here who is super on board with the publication, so he will be a big help. So it should turn out well, and I don’t plan on disappointing anyone anytime soon. Last cool thing to note was that I got my LHIP name tag and business cards this week, which was a huge highlight. Big thanks to everyone at LHIP for this opportunity and making my dreams come true. In short, I am very happy here, I’m working pretty hard, and everything is going the way I had hoped.
