The NPS National Capital Region: Presidents, Trees, and Everything In Between

Hi everyone! My name is Alexandra Silio, and I am the LHIP Park Planning Fellow at the National Park Service’s National Capital Region Office. I recently graduated from the University of Central Florida with a bachelor’s in environmental studies with a focus on communication, planning, and geographic information systems. I am so excited to be working in Washington D.C. for the duration of this internship!

Here is me standing in front of the White House after a walk-through of a monument within the White House gates!

Now, you might be asking yourself, what exactly is the National Capital Region Office? The National Capital Region Office oversees all the different parks, monuments, historical sites, and other units of the park system within the National Capital Area (different regions of Virginia, Maryland, and the entirety of Washington D.C.). I am specifically working with Lands and Planning, which works on the development of different monuments and memorials, in addition to the master plans of these different units. Some of the different parks and monuments found within this area include: Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial, the National Mall and the different monuments along it, Rock Creek Park, Great Falls Park, among several others.

Overall, I am super excited and can’t wait to tell you more about it!

Till next time,

Alexandra
