Haley, a Summit Metro Parks worker & I, cutting branches and weeds

Because Latino Conservation week was coming up and nearing its end, we took a pause on bird banding and decided to plan for our public bird banding event. We spent a good amount of time figuring out what we specifically wanted to highlight in our event, some incentives for people to come early in the morning, and how we would do registration for our event. The most time consuming but also fun part of planning our event was making the flyers and being able to pass them around town, and nearby public spaces. We went to closeby cafes, libraries, and bird shops. A week before our event was happening, we went to Little Meadow to clear out a path to set up our bird nets and make sure nearby vegetation, or plants wouldn’t get caught or in the way. We went out with plant shears, weed wackers, and our lead, Ray, would cut down a lot of terrain with her own powered tool. Despite the area being filled with so many weeds, and branches with thorns, it was exciting to be getting ready for our public event and doing a different type of field work with a little bit of maintenance.
