Patrick Rios

Hello y’all, my name is Patrick Rios. I am 20 years old and I am from the small town of Seguin, Texas. I am an incoming junior at Texas State University; my major is Advertising with a minor in Communication Studies. For the next ten weeks, I will be working at the Jimmy Carter National Historic Sites in Plains, Georgia. I am so appreciative of the great opportunities the Latino Heritage Internship Program has given to me to work at this amazing National Historic Site. The Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is where Jimmy Carter went to school and the location of the farm where he grew up. What makes these sites so unique is that the namesake is still alive and making history every day. Since Plains is home to President Carter, there is even the chance I might see him! Not only do I hope to gain a vast knowledge of the 39th president, but also a wider understanding of how to reach Latinos in the community and how to make them feel welcome at this and other national parks. I am so excited to be part of a program that brings diversity to the National Park Service and to also be a part of the National Park Service, which helps tell the story of America.
