06 Jun My Window into the C&O Canal at Georgetown
Hi, I’m Camilla Sandoval and I’ll be interning at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal in Georgetown this summer! I recently graduated from UMBC where I majored in History and minored in Public History. In the fall, I’ll start working on my Master’s degree from UMBC in the Historical Studies program with a concentration in Public History. This internship at the C&O Canal will be a great way to meet people who are active in the field of public history and to see real life applications of different concepts and processes I learned about throughout my undergrad career. I am eager to explore a variety of the roles and responsibilities that come with working for the National Park Service. More specifically, I’m excited to see how historic sites approach the difficulties that come with outreach, inclusivity, and getting communities involved and engaged with history. My knowledge about the history of the C&O Canal is limited so I’m also happy to be able to learn more about the site itself as my internship goes along. I’m looking forward to the rest of the summer and ready to get the most out of my time as a Latino Heritage intern!
