My First Weekend at Point Reyes

Hello! This was my first weekend at Point Reyes National Seashore and I can honestly say that I am blown away by the park and so excited to start work tomorrow! The first thing I did when I got to Point Reyes was meet my boss John and my supervisor, who is also named John! They were both very friendly and helpful. My apartment is a 35 minute drive from my office. I live at the very tip of the peninsula, in the Lighthouse Park area. The drive out to my apartment is a bit unpredictable but nevertheless, beautiful. I drive through mile after mile of meadows, forests, farms, and coastline. It is peaceful and worth it. I know that so many adventures lay ahead of me and I cannot wait to tackle them all! Some fun facts about Point Reyes:

  • The park was established to preserve and protect wilderness, natural ecosystems, and cultural resources along the diminishing undeveloped coastline of the western United States.
  • It is home to 1500 species of plants and animals.
  • It is the windiest place on the Pacific Coast and the second foggiest place on the North American continent.
  • The Point Reyes Lighthouse (which is only a 300 climb down from my apartment) was built in 1870, provided mariners safety by warning them of rocky shores and reefs. It is now a preserved museum piece.
