08 Jun Meet Me in Mill City
Hey guys! My name is Daniela Sierra; I’m 20 years old and currently an art history major with a focus on museum studies at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I live just forty minutes outside of Boston in a smaller city that played no small part in the history of the innovative, technological, and labor revolutions of the United States in the 19th and 20th centuries. I live in Lowell, MA the textile-factory town that helped launch the industrial revolution and I am so very excited to be working with the National Parks Service here. Lowell isn’t like your average national park. There are no clearly defined borders. The city itself is the park. Through my Latino Heritage internship I get to delve into the past of Lowell and learn about the industrial, economic and social factors that led to its rise and eventual demise as well as the immigrant history and culture that surrounds it. Not only that, but this internship allows me to be a spokesperson for a city that has completely utilized its rich history and historic infrastructure to create an artistic hub and cultural center. Whether its giving boat tours through canal systems or helping organize the Summer Music Series and Folk Festival, I get to be both storyteller and advocate for my hometown which I think is “wicked” cool. I am very grateful for this opportunity and look forward to keeping you posted!
