The Office of Communications supports the National Park Service (NPS) with innovative and responsive communications strategies and leads the Service in exploring new ways to communicate broadly about the National Park Service’s mission. The intern will support these efforts working with the Public Affairs and Digital Strategy Divisions in the office.
With the Digital Strategy team, they will learn to work in the NPS.gov content management system and assist with digital projects (e.g., trip planning, service-wide messaging, programmatic initiatives, etc) as identified by the NPS.gov Content Manager. With the Public Affairs media and Digital Content teams, they will help with messaging on projects that connect various audiences to the National Park Service, its mission, and amazing places, including promoting the work of the LHIP interns nationwide through products such as webpages, articles, social media posts, or videos.
In all of the projects, they will gain practical experience by producing tangible items (news releases, articles, internal/external guidance, videos, photography, social media posts, etc.) that will help in their career development, assist in the development and implementation of communication plans and provide insight and input to help expand the NPS audience. They will provide assistance in the facilitation, coordination, and distribution of information to national, regional, and park staff as well as various partners.
