Have Pride in What You Do

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world.  Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”  – Margaret Mead

Sunday, June 18th, I had the privilege of marching in the 2017 Denver Pride Fest Parade. It was amazing to see so many National Park Service (NPS) employees from different divisions, offices, and parks all come together to march in the parade. Throughout the parade, we passed out bookmarks to those hanging on the side streets as we went by them. These bookmarks had descriptions of people or places that tell the rich history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Americans that are important to America’s deep and diverse past. Also during the parade it was awesome to, in a way, feel famous! So many people recognized us and cheered us on as we marched down the street. It was great to walk down that road, to see so many smiles on people’s faces as they appreciated that the NPS is an inclusive and welcoming organization. Nothing makes me more proud, or so full of pride for what I do, than moments like this.   Here is a link to the article with photos and quotes of NPS’s time at the parade: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2qDX8zTa2lBbXM1XzhoUUtsRU0/view
