19 Nov First Snow At DEWA!

Over the past weeks I have spent a lot of time out exploring the various trails in the park. Here at DEWA we are very lucky to have wonderful, kind and thoughtful coworkers who keep in touch even during the off season. I was able to join a group hike with employees of both Upper Delaware and DEWA.
The group met at Blue Mountain Lake Trail on the Jersey side of the park, and hiked down to Long Pine Pond, and around Crater Lake. We hiked for about 6 miles, chatting and enjoying the views.

Tuesday the 11th of November I woke up to a strong chill and flurries at my window. As someone from Texas, snow is rare and more like ice than snow, so this is something I had been hoping for my entire time here. Though it wasn’t inches and inches of snow, the soft flurries throughout the day were just what I was hoping for. It was just enough to be able to go out for a nice long hike. I was the only person on the trail I picked, so the day was quiet and peaceful.
I spent time sitting by the falls watching the flurries fall, catching them on my tongue and hands like I would as a child. I will never get tired of catching snowflakes, looking at their unique shapes before they melt away.

Heading back on my hike, I looped back around down Cliff Trail which overlooks the Delaware River. I was able to stop at many different points to overlook the area, many of the leaves have fallen off the trees at this point of the year. But there was still a multitude of colors to see from 500 feet above the tree line.
As the seasons change and the cold starts to bite, I know my time at DEWA is coming to an end. I am so grateful I will be able to spend the last weeks of my internship in the office and out in the field.
