Busy Month at Zion

Zion National Park has a rich history behind it, alongside being one of the most beautiful canyons in the US. However, much of the Latino history has not been thoroughly researched and this is where our team comes in. Our main goal is to compose a sort of master document containing any recorded Latino history in the park and surrounding areas. We are starting with early Spanish explorers like the Dominguez- Escalante mission and then the history of Latinos settling in Utah. Along with the history, we are focusing on four factors that could have influenced Latinos to settle here: migration, labor, religion, arts, and sports. Hopefully after we have a solid base, we can narrow our research more into Zion specifically and create a presentation that can be given at the park.

We are also working on activities and events for Latino Conservation Week, which is coming up in about a month. Along with Latino Conversation Week, Zion just had its Pride event to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community. The summer season is also one of the busiest times for Zion, which means tons of visitors will be at the park during this time. All of these events will accumulate into a fun summer for sure!
