23 May Alaska, Here I Come!

Alaska has always been a place that I have longed to visit. At the age of twelve, I became enamored with the idea that someday I would be amongst the landscapes and wildlife of my dream destination. I read countless books about Alaska; some fiction, some more honest to the state, but all wonderful. One of the poems I had written about Alaska, an excerpt from the book Julie of the Wolves, was even published in my sixth-grade yearbook. If someone would have told me that later in my life I would be heading to Alaska and interning in a national park (another one of my lifelong dreams), I probably would have swooned. Needless to say, I am thrilled beyond measure to be a part of this internship.“The Last Frontier,” as Alaska is often referred to as, bears many resemblances to my home state of Nevada. When I began working on my B.S. in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation at the University of Nevada, Reno, we would often draw comparisons between the two states. As an education intern at Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park, I hope to be able to draw from my experiences in Nevada and enrich the program in a unique and entertaining way. I hope that this blog serves as a testament to my dedication to making my experience in Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park the best that it can be. As I write this, I am currently en route to my location. I cannot wait to get there and see what awaits me!
